The author J.R.R. Tolkien

This is not a Tolkien image gallery or a biography of the author page, but a page where I am sharing my enjoyment of his works and what I know of them. I have been reading his books from the time I was eight years old, starting with the Hobbit, moving on to the Lord of the Rings (still my favourite of his works) and to the Silmarillion. I read one copy of the Lord of the Rings so many times that it fell apart (right in the middle of the Council of Elrond) and horror of horrors, I wasn't able to get it replaced for 2 years!! I now have two spare copies waiting when the current one falls apart, so I have a total of 4 copies of the Lord of the Rings, 3 copies of the Hobbit and 2 copies of the Silmarillion. All page references for the Lord of the Rings are to the Allan Lee Illustrated hardcover one-volume version.

I think that one of the truest things that Tolkien said in the Lord of the Rings, was in The Lord of the Rings, page 73:
He deserves death.
Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be to eager to deal out death in judgment. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.

Tolkien wrote all the Middle-Earth books to give England a mythology which he thought was lacking.

Other books Tolkien wrote include:

    - Smith of Woton Major
    - Farmer Giles of Ham
    - Roverandom (just published)
    - Tree and Leaf
    - Mr. Bliss
    - Sir Gwain and the Green Knight (a translation)
    - Pearl (a translation)

Many of these are childrens books or essays, books and lectures for the classes he taught.
